Marcus Stokes Racial Slur Leads To Withdrawal Of Scholarship Offer

Marcus Stokes’s Racial Slur cost him his scholarship. After a video of Nebraska quarterback Marcus Stokes uttering a racial slur while singing a song went viral on social media, the University of Florida withdrew its scholarship offer to Stokes.

Marcus Stokes, a four-star quarterback out of Nebraska, is no longer in the Florida Gators’ 2023 recruiting class. Senior Stokes is from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Marcus Stokes, a Florida high school quarterback prospect, expressed regret on Sunday, two days after a video of him uttering a racial slur was circulated online.

Due to the event, the Gators withdrew their scholarship offer. Since July, Stokes has been committed to Florida.

Stokes’ status in the Gators class was in doubt after a viral video of Stokes using a racial slur surfaced on social media this past Friday.

A senior quarterback from Nease, Marcus Stokes, revealed Sunday morning that the University of Florida’s coaching staff had canceled his scholarship due to social media footage showing him uttering a racial handle.

Stokes switched his commitment from Penn State to UF in July when he entered Florida’s recruiting class.

Last month, he used a business trip to Florida to see the Gator’s matchup with LSU.

The Gators have only committed to Jaden Rashada of Pittsburg, California, the No. 7 player in the SI99, as their quarterback for the 2019 class.

With Stokes’ departure, the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class is now down to 22 commitments.

After switching quarterback Jaden Rashada from Miami earlier this month, Florida still has a signal caller in their class.

The Florida recruiting class of 2023 includes 18 people that are 4-star prospects.

Marcus Stokes Released An Apology Statement

Stokes claimed in a statement published Sunday afternoon on Twitter that he was singing along to a rap song in his car at the time of the viral video.

In a social media post, he claimed, “I was in my car listening to rap music, rapping along to the words and posting a video of it on social media.

He wrote that he hoped to learn from his mistake and did not blame the program for pulling his scholarship offer.
